Midwifery Services

Bringing Birth Back Home

Traditionally, babies have been born in their own homes with their families and loved ones there to help care and support. Home birth is a safe option for low-risk women and babies. By treating birth as the process of becoming a mother, and not a medical procedure, women avoid the use of unnecessary interventions and the risks they can pose. During active labor we are there to ensure your safety, give you encouragement, and guide you into positions that will enhance your labor and comfort. You can eat and drink as you like, move about your home, and have the ultimate control of your labor and birth. When your baby is ready to be born, we are monitoring closely and there by your side to give the encouragement you need. We support you in whatever position you choose to birth in, or place, be in the tub or your living room. We come in teams so that we have enough hands to care for you and your newborn. And we love tucking you all into your own beds before we leave you to rest.

Our desire is to provide our community with the rich traditions of home birth combined with modern knowledge and technology. We desire to provide a safe and satisfying birth and it all starts with good prenatal care.

First Trimester

Beginning around 10-14 weeks, we will begin care every month. We offer early pregnancy tests, ultrasound appointments, routine prenatal care, a listening ear and support for any discomforts and concerns that you have. A healthy, low risk pregnancy is best achieved by proper assessments and routine prenatal care. We want to help you get the best start for you and your baby.

Second Trimester

We schedule a full anatomy scan ultrasound at 20 weeks and continue your monthly appointments until 28 weeks. Gestational diabetes screening and routine OB labs will be discussed and offered as you progress into the third trimester.

Third Trimester

Natural childbirth education and optimal fetal positioning is of great importance in this final stretch. We begin to see you and your family every 2 weeks until 36 weeks and then weekly until birth. We monitor you and baby closely, screening for any abnormalities and wellbeing. We offer advice and education on home birth preparation, exercises to ease pregnancy discomforts and how to care for your newborn after they arrive.
